VCDC Annual Golf Social Sign Up Now
The Vermillion Area Chamber & Economic Development Company (VCDC) Ambassadors invite you to participate in the 2013 VCDC Annual Golf Social! This event is an opportunity for our community members to get to know each other, a chance for us to appreciate and interact with each other in person, and a fundraising opportunity to help support the overall efforts of our organization.

Annual Vermillion Area Chamber & Community Awards Banquet The Annual Vermillion Area Chamber & Community Awards Banquet is Thursday, March 14, at the Eagles Club, 114 E Main St. The social hour will begin at 5:30 pm, followed by dinner and the program. It is a time to thank all of the members, individuals, and volunteers who support and contribute to the success of the chamber and business community. The banquet also gives us an opportunity to recognize the outstanding achievements of the community's leaders and organizations by presenting the Family Business of the Year Award, the Mayor's Community Service Award, the United Way Volunteer of the Year Award, the VCDC Community Leader Award, along with other awards. The guest speaker is Lt. Gov. Matt Michels. The banquet is open to the public and tickets are on sale for $30 each at the Chamber office at 116 Market Street or contact us at 605-624-5571. A Holiday Gift from the Chamber Members to the Community The VCDC is conducting a Vermillion Bucks sale. We are offering $10,000 in Vermillion Bucks available for purchase in $100 bundles of $20 denominations at the discounted rate of $85 per bundle. This equates to an immediate discount of 15% off on all products and services in Vermillion. They can be purchased at the VCDC office at 116 Market Street. Limited to 2 bundles per family. "The Spirit of Christmas" The Special Events Committee for the Vermillion Area Chamber and Development Company (VCDC) is sponsoring the 4th Annual "Parade of Lights" in Downtown Vermillion on Friday, December 7. Vermillion area merchants, businesses, schools and organizations are encouraged to put together a float for the parade. The theme is "The Spirit of Christmas", so get your creativity flowing and enter! Entry forms can be found on the VCDC website, www.vermillionchamber.com, or at the Chamber office at 116 Market St. A trophy and $25 in Vermillion Bucks will be awarded to the winner. Deadline to enter is December 3. At the end of the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus will light the community Christmas Tree at Ratingen Platz on Market and Main Streets. After the tree lighting, children and parents are invited to the Clay County Court House basement for "Stockings for Soldiers", an opportunity to make a FREE ornament to take home, and to decorate a stocking for a soldier serving overseas, sponsored by the Vermillion Public Library. (Due to the Library renovation, the craft will be held in the Court House basement.) Children up to the age of 12 are encouraged to enter a coloring contest for a chance to have "Lunch with Santa" on Sat., Dec. 8 at 11:30 at HyVee and meet him before Christmas. Coloring pages will be available at the public schools, HyVee and the VCDC office at 116 Market St. The coloring entries must be received by Nov. 20. Also on Saturday, December 8, from 12:30 to 2:30, FREE pictures with Santa will be available at HyVee. Candidate Forum Scheduled The VCDC Legislative Affairs Committee is sponsoring a candidate forum for those running for State Senate and House of Representatives for District 17 and also those running for Clay County Commissioner. All candidates have been invited to participate. The forum will be held at the City Hall Council Chambers, 25 Center Street, on Tuesday, Oct. 23 starting at 7:00 pm. The forum is open to the public.

The Vermillion community is preparing for its annual July 4th Celebration with a call for donors, volunteers, and vendors. This popular event at Barstow Park from 6:00 pm to dusk includes music by C & K Entertainment, the inflatables activity area for kids (w/$5 wristband), food booths, merchandise booths, the Eagles Beer Garden, Annual Hy-Vee Hot Dog Eating Contest, and a spectacular fireworks display by Fireworks Unlimited. This event is not only enjoyed by the Vermillion residents, but it brings in people from surrounding communities which in turn brings money into Vermillion. Your Donations Are Needed! In order for us to continue to provide the fabulous fireworks display and services each year, we need your generous donations. Would You Like To Volunteer? Volunteers are needed to help with the event. If you would like to volunteer your time and/or services please contact us. Food And Non-Food Vendors Are Needed. Vendors are needed to sell food, merchandise, and arts & crafts. Organizations are welcome to use this opportunity as a fundraiser. Tedd Schaffer's Eagle Scout Project - a 9 foot log sign for the new skate park - which Blair Smith, the chainsaw artist, has carved and Boy Scout Troop 66 sanded and painted, all under Tedd's supervision. This sign will be installed with a small ceremony. Tedd invites the public to attend. This award recognizes the accomplishments of a Vermillion area individual and his/her contributions to our community. The VCDC is also looking for a Vermillion area family business with a strong record of success, family involvement, community service, multi-generational culture, and a positive family business structure.
